Mindfulness is very important in whole child education. To be mindful means to be 'fully present' at the moment. By paying full attention to your daily activities, you are being mindful. One becomes more appreciative of his/her surroundings through mindfulness. In being mindful, teachers build a stronger connection to students.
Mindfulness and Presence are two words that go hand-in-hand. When teachers become mindful of their teaching, they are being present in the classroom. Dr. Jack Miller once said that "if we recall the teachers that have had an impact on us, it is often not the material that they taught that we remember but their 'presence' that somehow touched us deeply." (Jack Miller, Whole Child Education)*
