Dr. Jack Miller, a Professor at University of Toronto OISE, has been working on holistic education for over three decades. In his book about Whole Child Education (WCE), he mentions that it is composed of five parts:

1. Whole Child
- helping students gain a purpose in life
- assist students in their ability to think critically and creatively
- forming community of love and justice in classroom and school
- a connected curriculum (linkage of mind, body, soul, & Earth)
- helping students recognize their inner life
- making community connections (classroom, school, neighbourhood, global)
- using an inclusive approach by integrating the 3T's (transmission, transaction & transformation)
- portray the following qualities: patience, presence, care, love, humility, & wholeness (mindfulness & meditation)
